The Forest Department of Dadra & Nagar Haveli looks after the Forest worth of approximately 10000 Crore in an area of 204 of Protected, Reserved & Wildlife Sanctuary. The Reserved Forest constitute more than 40% of total geographical area as against the National average of 23.84% and proposed to achieve 33% as per Forest Policy 1988. As per the FSI Report 2009, the Forest & Tree Cover of the Union Territory is 48.47%. The predominant population of tribals which constitute 32% of the total population of the U.T. mainly depends on forests for their requirements of fuel wood, fodders, small timber and employment. The Forest Policy 1988 aims at providing environmental stability ecological balance through increase in tree cover by alterstation and social forestry programmes both in forest and non forest areas. It also aim at creating awareness of masses and their movement in conservation efforts to ensure preservation of natural forests with bio-diversity and genetic resources.
